RAMALLAH, June 28, 2012 (WAFA) – Chief negotiator Saeb Erekat confirmed on Thursday that a meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Israel’s deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz will take place on Sunday.
While Erekat did not say where the meeting is going to take place, earlier reports said it will be held in Ramallah at Abbas’ office.
Speaking on Voice of Palestine, Erekat said he does not want to raise expectations from the meeting, which he stressed will not be negotiations.
He said it is known in Israel that negotiations are the responsibility of its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, or a team he names.
Erekat said Mofaz has asked for a meeting with Abbas after he was elected to head Kadima party, but that he renewed his request after he joined the Israeli government and became deputy prime minister.
He said the Palestinians do not know what Mofaz will say at the meeting, but that they have a lot to tell him.
