RAMALLAH, June 14, 2012 (WAFA) – Al-Quds front page story Thursday highlighted statements by Fatah Central Committee member Nabil Shaath saying that the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Leader Khaled Meshaal in Cairo has been postponed due to Egyptian presidential elections.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted a European diplomatic source stating that the PLO should not bet on Europe’s support when it seeks to win a non-member post at the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Ayyam quoted European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton saying “settlement activities and Palestinian lack of control over C areas threaten the two-state solution.”

The three papers printed photos of Israeli soldiers arresting Palestinians in different areas across the West Bank and a Jewish settler verbally attacking foreign activists during a protest in Hebron.

Al-Quds focused on the Vatican’s unchanged position from occupied East Jerusalem following talks between the Vatican and Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida featured an Israeli report criticizing the way Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has handled Israeli navy takeover of the Turkish ship, Mavi Marmara, in 2010 as it was on its way to Gaza carrying aid and humanitarian supplies.

Al-Quds reported on Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Malki saying that Washington and the European countries are pressuring Abbas to postpone seeking UN non-state membership until after the US elections.
